Georgetown Heritage Properties

Georgetown was, together with Malacca, formally inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 7th July 2008.

Several of the criterions that make Georgetown outstanding as a UNESCO World Heritage Site are;
  • exceptional examples of multi-cultural trading town in East and Southeast Asia;
  • living testimony to the multi-cultural and tradition of Asia, and European colonial influences; and
  • a mixture of influences which have created an unique architecture, culture and townscape without parallel anywhere in East and Southeast Asia.

Georgetown Heritage Site is typically divided in 2 zones, Core Zone (109.38ha) & Buffer Zone (150.04ha).
